Featuring Augie Meyers (keyboards), Johnny Perez (drums), J.J. Light (bass), Frank Morin (percussion, vocals and horns) and likely Sonny Farlow on guitars.

In the early 1970’s, the Sir Douglas Quintet experienced a career lull that eventually led to their break up and Doug Sahm heading back to Texas to spearhead the Austin rock/country cross-pollination scene. The rest of the Quintet stayed in California and hooked up with several front musicians (Kim Fowley, Sonny Farlow, Atwood Allen) to form various aggregations.

The Amigos de Musica Band cut four sides for Mercury’s Fontana imprint and all sides feature the same rollicking good time Tex Mex sounds that the SDQ had immortalized previously. These are absolutely classic sides and quite rare. Neither Amigos de Musica Band record charted. Neither side has ever appeared on an LP or CD (as of November, 2008) and not likely to be. This band morphed into The Quintet (released one LP on United Artists) and signed with Mercury in 1972 as ‘L Quintet (no releases). Augie eventually returned to San Antonio to form The Western Headband, Johnny Perez subsequently hooked up with Joe “King” Carrasco to write tunes, J.J. Light (Jim Stallings) is a legendary figure (his “Heya” LP is considered a psych classic) and Frank Morin stayed on the other side of the recording console, producing numerous sides for other artists in the 1970’s.
