Cameo appearances in movies the Blues Brothers and Rocky lV. One of the originators of "Soul/Funk" music, variously billed on Polydor releases as "Soul 1", "The Creator", "The Godfather of Soul", "The Hit Man", and "Minister of New New Super Heavy Funk". His backing group, The JD's featured various personnel, including Nat kendrick, Bootsy Collins, Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley. On Dec. 15, 1988, received a six-year prison sentence after leading police on an interstate car chase; released from prison on Feb. 27, 1991. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. Won Grammy's Lifetime Achievment Award in 1992. Brown died on Dec. 25, 2006.
comment #3: Kansas City is a hot R&B version of the Leiber & Stoller classic which made Billboard # 1 for Wilbert Harrison in 1959 and was first released by Little Willie Littlefield in 1952 as "K.C. Lovin'" on Federal 12110. As frequently happens, the flip side of a hit vocal single will have as it's flip side a fantastic instrumental, which is the case here with the sizzlin' guitar driven instrumental "Stone Fox".
