Rhythm Steppers (1960) label: Louis
Hi sublabel run by Bill Black in Memphis, cut in his studio. Later to become Milt Mirley & The Rhythm Steppers (with author Billy Swan). Vocal: drummer Jimmy Boyer.
(c): Dennis Turner (1961) , Clyde McPhatter (1962) , Vernons Girls (1962) , Arthur Alexander (1962) , Bobby G. Rice (1971) , Kinky Friedman (1974) , Billy Swan (1974) [author], Kris Kristofferson & Rita Coolidge (1974) , Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers (1979) , Jack Oblivian (2011) ,

Mirt Mirley & the Steppers and the Rhythm Steppers were the same group and cut this on Bill Black's own label. Another version followed by one Dennis Turner before the hit by Clyde McPhatter in 1962.
The author Billy Swan was to remain unknown till the 70s when he topped the singles charts

I've just posted the original version of "Lover
Please" by the Rhythm Steppers in 1960. According
to the Originals Project website, Swan wrote the
song while in high school and the group were his
friends. It was cut in Memphis, probably at
Satellite, and Swan attended the session but did
not play.
