comment #3:

liner notes by L.R. Docks:

"In these early DOUG SAHM recordings, which are among the "cream" of vintage Texas rock 'n' roll, fans will recognize the emerging SIR DOUG sound, a unique blend of rock 'n' roll, rhythm and blues, country and western, and "Tex-Mex". These performances antedate by several years the popularity he achieved in the mid to late sixties as SIR DOUG of the SIR DOUGLAS QUINTET.  With the exception of a single 1955 release by 12-year-old "LITTLE DOUG," SARG 113 "Rollin', Rollin'"/A Real American Joe," which is of little interest as rock 'n' roll, this collection comprises his first commercially issued recordings (an EP issued in 1974, Bop-Tex 8002, contains a different tune entitled "Sapphire" than that contained herein, and two titles by other vocalists with Doug's band accompanying). The original releases, on E.J. Henke's Harlem label (San Antonio, 1958-1961), attained only regional distribution (one record, Harlem 107, "Why Why Why"/"If You Ever Need Me," was picked up by Swingin' records and on that label was more widely circulated). Therefore, this album provides many fans of SIR DOUG a long-overdue oppertunity to savor early DOUG. But one needn't be a fan of SIR DOUG to enjoy this potpourri, which ranges from slow ballads to frantic rockers; all that's needed is an appreciation of good old rock 'n' roll.

comment #4: album is released with two different covers:
#1: front and back cover are the same
#2: same front cover as #1, but the back cover is white (empty)
