IRON BUTTERFLY
THE EXPERIENCE
venue: Pioneer Ballroom
place: Suisun City, CA
country: USA"Grand Opening of the Pioneer Ballroom"
comment:
- The Experience is not Jimi Hendrix's band.
- Artist of the poster: unknown.
- Venue: Pioneer Ballroom, Suisun City, CA. Little is known about this venue, other than the Grateful Dead played their a week later on 9/23-24.
- Los Angeles' Love was one of the best West Coast folk-rock/psychedelic bands, and may have also been the first widely acclaimed cult/underground group. An eclectic palette encompassing furious jazz structures, gentle Spanish guitar interludes, and beautiful baroque pop with dream-like images, Love soon went on to record the rock masterpiece "Forever Changes".
- The heavy, psychedelic acid rock of Iron Butterfly may seem dated to some today, but the group was one of the first hard rock bands to receive extensive radio airplay, and their best-known song, the 17-minute epic "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida,"-- Gig poster is very scarce and possibly undocumented. -- 2 original transparent film negative.
Below you see some pictures of transparent film negatives used in the process of offset printing of posters. These are original and one-of-a-kind, unaltered, and in their original found state. Found in the basement of 141 Noe Street, San Francisco, CA. The location of the Bindweed press which operated from 1966-1967, and was responsible for the early Family Dog series posters, as well as many rare other rock, folk, coffee house, theatre, and miscellaneous posters of the era.
These ONE-OF-A-KIND transparent film negatives are of great historical significance. Incredibly rare find, as they were normally destroyed or thrown out.
